Helping meet transportation needs in the La Crosse Area.
Everybody Bikes’ mission is to be a part of a transportation solution for people in seriously under-resourced circumstances.
Who can benefit?
A community member 16 yrs of age or older who is seriously under-resourced and needing help with transportation equipment in the form of a bicycle and other necessary gear/repairs.
How does it work?
A referral must be initiated by a social service agency or agent such as La Crosse County Social Services, Coulee Cap, Health Department, school administration/ staff, church, YMCA, YWCA, or community agency. Call, email, or stop by Wrench & Roll to make a referral.
Equipment needs will be assessed and a cost projection attached to the referral. The cost is submitted to the Everybody Bikes Executive Board for final approval.
Upon approval, the board releases funds, and equipment. Recipient will sign an agreement to attend three hours of educational sessions at Wrench & Roll within 6 months of accepting equipment.
Is there really a need?
Transportation for a family of four earning $25,000 or less is over 40% of their household budget. Owning a car in the USA costs, on the average, $9,000 to $12,000 annually. The La Crosse County poverty rate stands at 15% at or below the poverty line. That means over 17,000 people out of the 118, 122 people in La Crosse County live in under-resourced circumstances.
What Can I Do?
You can help in several ways:
- Donate bicycles in good to excellent condition.
- Make a monetary donation to Everybody Bikes. All funds go directly to equipment and servicing the bicycles. Board members serve voluntarily, donating time and expertise.
- Donate volunteer time to help refurbish donated bicycles.
- Help with fundraising efforts.
